‘Love is always patient and kind. Love takes no pleasure in other people’s sins.’

Readings: Text

St Paul gives us a beautiful definition of love in this epistle, something to which we should aspire. He tells us not to judge others but to be kind and patient. Which of us can do it? The people around Jesus failed to see the goodness in him. They hadn’t understood John and now they were judging the Son of God himself. That’s the way we are, we sinners. We often miss the point. We want to control our lives and prove ourselves right and so we are like children shouting at one another, seeing so little of the truth.

Help me, Lord, to see the goodness in the people around me.
